Position Overview

LeoTerra Development is seeking an experienced Screed Operator to join our asphalt paving crew. The Screed Operator is responsible for operating the screed on the asphalt paver to ensure the correct thickness, smoothness, and proper finish of the asphalt mat. This role requires attention to detail, precision, and strong teamwork to produce high-quality paved surfaces for our development projects, including streets, driveways, and access roads.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the screed on the asphalt paver to control the depth, grade, and finish of the asphalt mat.
  • Monitor and adjust screed settings, tow points, and crown to maintain consistent paving results.
  • Work closely with the Paver Operator, Foreman, and crew to ensure smooth paving operations and transitions.
  • Check surface temperatures, asphalt texture, and smoothness to ensure compliance with job specifications.
  • Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance of the screed and paver.
  • Assist with setup, cleaning, and teardown of paving equipment as needed.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Communicate clearly with crew members to ensure efficient coordination on the job site.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating a screed on an asphalt paver preferred.
  • Strong understanding of paving techniques, grades, and compaction processes.
  • Ability to make precise screed adjustments and monitor mat quality in real time.
  • Dependable and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand and work on feet for long periods (up to 10–12 hours per day).
  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and reach as required to operate and service equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including extreme heat, cold, dust, and noise.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail for operating controls and ensuring quality finishes.
